Community Residential Alternatives (CRAs) in Illinois provide Medicaid-waiver funded, community-based housing and personalized support for adults and children with intellectual or developmental disabilities. These services, often managed under the Community Integration and Habilitation (CIH) Waiver, offer 24/7 care in group homes or host homes, focusing on skill acquisition, behavioral support, and daily living

Key Components of CRAs

Residential Habilitation & Support: Services include in-home care, help with meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and transportation.

Specialized Support: Behavioral support plans, crisis assistance, medication administration, and 24/7 on-call nursing are common.

Independence Focus: Programs assist with managing finances, social skills, and community integration, such as shopping or activities.

Types of Homes: Ranging from group homes with staff to Host Home/Structured Family Caregiving models.
